Hi and welcome to the forum :)

Yes the rainbowfish have gill tumours. There is no cure and I used to euthanise the fish when the tumours got too big or the fish had trouble eating, breathing, or swimming.

You can reduce the risk of them developing tumours by feeding them lots of plant matter and plant based foods. At least half their diet should be plant based.

Gill tumours can also be linked to Fish Tuberculosis (Mycobacterium species). There is no cure for Fish TB and a diet high in plant metter can reduce the symptoms that might appear.

Thank you. That's very sad to hear. I have had rainbows for years with no issues then two like this. They both seem happy and are eating ok. What's the recommended way to euthanise fish? I've never had to do that before.

A few big of drops of clove oil in a cup of warm water will put the fish into a comatose state and eath follows quickly afterwards....usually seconds. Its painless and quick.

I had to euthanise one of my BN's at the weekend after she had been garotted by mesh on a pre-prepared/bought as is rock with moss on it
