Hello everyone,
I'm asking for your help to see if something can be done for this little guy. It has a 'tumor' protruding from it's gill.
It's in a long established 150 gallon tank running an external sump. I replace 60 gallons at a water change about once a week. Tank contains multi large fish, no recent death in the tank and no changes in oh so fun tank maintenance.
I'm currently salting the tank and I'm doing more water changes. Are there some meds I should be using? it really hasn't been getting any better.
Thank you.

It's a gill tumour and they are common in rainbowfish. There's nothing you can do for it.

Stop adding things to the tank, it won't make any difference.

Increase the amount of plant matter in their diet. Rainbowfish should have at least 50% of their diet come from aquatic plants and algae.

When the fish has trouble breathing or swimming, or goes off its food, euthanise it.

If you have a group of M. lacustris, breed them and increase the colony.
