I purchased some endlers livebearers awhile back, and just a few weeks ago they began exhibiting the signs of gill flukes. I have tried Jungle Parasite Clear with partial improvement, but after several weeks of application (following all the directions) the fish are still showing some signs. (a few of them). Basically, I want to eradicate these little buggers, and am wondering what the best medication would be? I work in a hospital lab, and have access to pure formalin if need be, but I'm wondering if there's anything less harsh and carcinogenic I can use. I know there are plenty of these threads around, but has anyone had ANY luck actually eradicating these parasites or is it more of a controlled burn scenario?

Thank you

Justin.

Fluke M by Kusuri. We use it in our shop as a lot of livebearers come in with flukes and you dont need to use a lot of it.

Get you some info on fluke meds.

Some flukes are egg layers so you have to keep retreating to kill the young as they hatch.
Also flukes cause bacterial infections so you have to back up with a bacterial med, or medicated food.

Red gills can be bad water quality, gill flukes, bacterial gill rot.

Gill Flukes

Symptoms:

Fish with gill flukes have gills that may appear red and inflamed, bleeding or slimy. Excess mucous or puss may exude from the gills. Sick fish can be observed gasping for air near the surface. This disease is most common in younger fish and fry, who are more susceptible to the parasite.

Cause:

The monogenetic fluke Dactylogyrus, which destroys gill tissue and damages blood vessels in this region.

Treatment:

Treat with Clout, Fluke Tabs, Paraform, Trifon, Paragon, Quick Cure, Formalin, orParasite Guard. Gill flukes are highly contagious, therefore, all fish in the same aquarium should be treated.
