I was walking in my frontyard when I passed one of my conifer trees with some large stick hanging off it. I looked at the weirdly shaped stick closely for some time, and the stick a was infact a giant female stick insect! Attached to it was the smaller male. I got quite a shock looking at it. Apparently they were mating, so I just took a few shots for something to share. And don't call me a pervet for snapping photos of it while they were mating! Humans and dolphins are the only species that find it...well...different to other animals! :sly: The first shot is a simple pick of it (with the male attached closely on the back) a It was about 12 inches long, and it may not be the biggest insect in the world but it was one of the biggest stick insects i had seen!

the photo of it makes it look a little small, heres a comparison shot. Thats a full sized adult hand (My dad's actually) and this morning I looked outside and its still there! Looks like that place is going to be the nest. Let you in on what goes on in the future. :D

wow, someone digged this classic thread from a while back! Indeed, that stick insect had babies and now there all over my yard  . Quite cute IMO though. ^_^

I have noticed that most of the shocked people are americans/canadians. Don't stick insects live in america? (I didn't know, thats all) :)
