That video is crazy. How big do you think that octopus is? The shark was done for in a matter a seconds. Wouldn't want to swim those Octupi.
I was wondering, all all american commentators as annoying as that guy?
No. National Geographic usually has really good commentators but this guy was just annoying and goofy.
yea national geographic must've laid off their usual guy or he was on vacation lol. because that wasn't him. but that was crazy! i wish there would've been more action though. the shark like said "sure eat me it's ok" and the octopus said "sounds good to me". it looked liek the shark didn't even struggle.
hmm... i liked octopi but now that they can kill sharks liek that idk, it kind of scares me to think of what it could do to a human.
Octopus are very strong though, there's a lot of muscle in that squish

. The fight itself wasn't particually spectacular, but it does show how an octopus could take down a shark if it ever decided to.
The octopus's tactics were actually very good/intelligent; by grabbing the head and tail, the octopus actually suffocated the shark- sharks are still very primitive fish, they were around long before the age of the dinosaurs or even land animals in general, and still have gills which cannot pump their own oxygen- for a shark to breath, it must be contstantly swimming around to supply enough water movement to its gills to obtain oxygen.
So basically, if you hold down a shark still for too long, it will suffocate. The more the shark thrashes around in the octopuses grip, the quicker it uses up its oxygen. With the octopus clamping down its head, it also cannot bite too

.
It looks like the octopus had had quite a bit of practice taking down sharks, it seemed to know exactly what it wanted

.
However, i would imagine people are not very appetising to octopus (we are actually very bony mammals in comparison to our flesh ratio- most predators don't like lots of bones in their kill).
I don't know how many attacks there are on people by octopus- there are plenty of poisonus or small octopi attacks, but attacks from big octopus on people as far as i am aware are very rare(anyone know any statistics?)- you would really have to irretate one to get it to attack you.
