Ghost shrimp are commonly sold as feeders. They do a good job cleaning and picking up scraps of food.

Google "ghost shrimp" and you'll learn a lot about them

Ok, um, I know I'm technically a newbie here, but I've been keeping fish for two years now with only two non-guppy fatalities, so I could be of some use... Anyways, could you please use punctuation in your posts? Also, if spelling/typing is not your strong point, it may help clarify your meanings to type first in a wordprocesser, spellcheck your work and then post online.

Just a suggestion, mind. :D

Its difficult to say what might or might not scarf up the ghost shrimp, but I wouldn't really worry about it. Ghost shrimp generally retail 5 for a dollar and that's as many as you'd need at any given point anyways. Plus I've regularly gotten females with eggs, so in the right conditions you could wind up with a colony! (Mine never took, of course. Pufferfish likes little crunchy bits... )

However, I'd bet you money those balas will eat your neons in a heartbeat!! Essentially all freshwater "sharks" are actually catfish of some variety, meaning they will eat anything they can fit in their mouths! An itty-bitty neon should be a tasty treat. If I were you, I'd go on ahead and get rid of at least one of those sharks in favor of 6 or 7 more neons. Neons like to school and that's actually their natural defense against predators. Besides, tanks (generally) look better when the fish sizes balance.

I am now getting something else anyway. I want frogs like adfs or somen only there hard 2 get here in australia.

and with typo spellin stuff wats the point of puntuation and stuff waste of time and u should save time by making shorter words like for know kno etc so loosen up dude :p

on the spelling thing, it does matter, as if you want people to understand your quetions, then they need to be able to know what your typing.

Would you realy write like that at school or work??? Some people realy can not spell, as they have lerning problems, like me. But someone sayong it does'nt matter is just down right lazy, and give people with lerning problems a very bad name. As people just think we're lazy to.

Hi balasgouramisandlemontetras :)

Please log out. Then, when you go to log back in, you will find a link on the right side of the page that says "resend validation email," or something like that. Just click on the link and it will be sent. :D

When you get the email look for a link that will validate your membership. This will allow you to post anywhere you like and will also give you use of the personal messenger so that you can send private messages to other members if you like.

Normally I might give a warning to members who post off topic conversations like this one about your grammar. This is the sort of thing that is best done by personal messenger. Or, since this is a topic that has come up before and is usually controversial, why not start a new thread in the General Talk forum?

I have four ghost shrimp in my 10 gallon and they are really neat to watch. They were kept with a male betta and a few cories. All of those fish left the shrimp alone. I agree that your bala will not only munch on the neons, but the shrimp and probably anything else he can fit in his mouth. I know it was already suggested, but I agree that you should ditch the bala shark and go for a large school of neons. Then maybe 4-6 dwarf gouramis with lots of plants. I think that would look really nice. Oh yea, and the shrimp! :D

EDIT: Oh, the ghost shrimp get to about 2 inches I believe. They usually stay at the bottom looking for food. Mine tend to sit on the leaves of my plants. :D They also will swim up to the top for feeding time to try to snatch a piece of food before the fish do.

I keep around 10 of these at any given time in my tanks. They are great cleanup crews and will eat any leftovers from feeding time. They grow to around an inch, are fishsafe with pretty much anything (fry included, except for maybe the smaller specimens) and live between 1-2 years on average. They come in freshwater as well as brackish water varieties with the freshwater variety being easier to propogate. They are a great live food for more robust species of fish as well.

Personally I wouldn't be without them, they are extremely entertaining to watch and add variety to any tank they are kept in.
