I bought 2 'ghost shrimp' a week ago coz i wanted something to keep my betta company once he's well again but they both looked different, i assumed it was coz they were male and female or something but now i think i've got something EVIL !!

One was white with sticky legs and little swimming things underneath and was quite sweet really, the other was dark speckled brown with proper crab-like pincers and he'd shed his skin once.

This morning i found evil shrimp with sweet shrimp in his claws with just his body left, no eyes, tenticles or anything!

What is this evil creature!

:-( aaawwww poor little sweet shrimp. can't help on wot evil shrimp mite be can you post any pics of it will help identify it

Shrimp generally have only very small pinchers so I wonder if you have a crawfish or lobster. I think the one that was eaten probably was a shrimp. I would definitely get the other one out or it may be your betta next time in his claws. Bettas and shrimp aren't exactly the best tank mates. As with all bettas, depending on their temperment, they will possibly kill shrimp too.

Sure sounds like a crayfish to me. The only thing I know that makes any dent in a crayfish is a turtle...and that gets ugleee! :X (no, I never fed a crayfish to a fullgrown turtle but I know someone who did. It was gross...the crayfish was history in moments. ) So sorry your shrimp got eaten so quick. I love shrimp, they are so beautiful and cool. (never take me to Red Lobster for a shrimp dinner  )

I would really query the expertise of the LFS you got that pair of critters from....

probably a prawn. My LFS sells them as ghost shrimp and fish friendly. They had 3 corys in with them with no fins which i pointed out but the guy who works there said they were sick. Its amazing the amount of unsuitable livestock some places sell. I would get rid asap before it kills your fish.

Thanks for your info, i think it probably is a crawfish, my betta is okay coz he's in a quarantine tank at the mo, i'm not going to put him in with that evil thing!!!

I don't wanna kill the little guy coz it's not his fault he's naturally evil, i think i'll take him back to the LFS and tell them off :)

tenticals? crab claws? shure dose not sound like g. shrimp to me!
