ok, i have a loach, one of the bottom feeder type, pretty nice, pretty young to, not that big, barely as round as a pencil, half as long as a pencil. but as u have read earlyer, i want (actually going to get) ghost shimp. buy the problem is, i don't want any of them to be harmed. what should i do? :dunno: :/

Keep the loach, forget the shrimp...

Sadly they will be snacks for the loach...

I have the same problem in one of my tanks I really want to add shrimp but my loaches will eat them and I have had the loaches a long time and just can't get rid of them...

:) soo give the loach a treat. Get some ghost shrimp and have a very happy fish.

Are you talking about a sucking loach/chinese algae eater? I'm certainly no expert on loaches but I thought most of them were larger even when young. At least fatter or rounder.

my CAE loach does not eat or annoy my ghost shrimp or my smaller cherry shrimp.nor does my common plec. my loach is about a year old and of similar size as long as your shrimp have places to hide you should be fine

CAEs probably won't eat the shrimp at least for now. I think everyone is speaking of regular loaches (clowns, etc) when they are talking about eating the shrimp. As CAEs get older though, they will start to attack other fish in the tank to eat the slime coat off them.

but, what if i get new loachs, and add the ghost shrimp and the loachs at the same time?

Listen, shrimp are food for fish it is just that simple...any loach once it gets large enough will attack and eat a shrimp.. sorry to burst your bubble..

Shrimp survive in nature because there is millions of gallons of water and plants/caves to hide in, your tank is limited and sooner or later the shrimp will get eaten..

If you want shrimp keep them with small fish and avoid any loach/shrimp combo..

CAE, does that stand for something, or is that it's real name, plz tell me.

I dissagree
If you want shrimp get big ones :p
like cameroon armoured shrimp or bamboo shrimp
both of which reach 6"+ and are too big for loaches to bother with.

I personally have 2 cameroon armoured shrimp with many loaches, including clowns.

wolf ,do you have photos of your cameroon armoured shrimp ,my giant african filter shrimp (same thing i think) is very camera shy and only comes out at night. whenever i try to take a photo he runs away

I have nothing recent but here is one when one of them was about 4"

cool it has a nice colour , mines a ligher blue but the colour is quite intense still (does that make any sense) do you put anything in your tank for it or do anything special. They are so self effeciant cant think of anything to do for it
