Hey guys i was just wondering if Ghost Shrimp need an air filter, and what do they eat? lol Like over all care for ghost shrimp, i was thinking of putting one maybe with my betta. :fun:

my bettas ate all the ghost shrimp i put in... i dont reccommend it

Anyhoo, they can live off of scraps and such, but since you've got a betta in there and there's no chance of overfeeding, you could break off small pieces of algae or shrimp pellets and put them in.

Ghost shrimp are really good at smelling out food, and they eat quite a lot. You could also feed them frozen foods and flake foods, but there's a high chance of polluting the tank.

I'm not so sure about the filter, though. Seeing as how all tanks need a filter, you should have that in your tank. As for air pumps and such, it wouldn't hurt to get water circulating and breaking the surface.

You sure about that? I've got a full grown betta in my 5 gallon tank and it doesn't even touch the shrimp.

i had 10 bettas in a 10 gallon tank... i put in 4 ghost shrimp.. all gone next day

Hmm. I bet you're probably getting pissed of at me for doubting you, but, once more, how?

Bettas' mouths aren't big enough to eat the shrimp unless they were too young.

Oh yeah, it takes ghosts a long time to get to around and inch, so if they're big then they'll die soon because their lifespans are at most around 2 years.

yea they were gone almost immediately... 1 of them managed to run away but got caught overnight.. i didnt purposely do it.. i wanted them to live and clean the bottom.. o well.. dont make the same mistake i did :(

I know you didn't.

Apparently it's best not to go with the shrimp. :dunno:

You could try an ADF, but it might be the same thing.

I have a few ghost shrimp (including females with eggs) in my ten gallon with several female bettas, and they seem to be doing just fine. However, only one shrimp out of 14 survives in a tank with one of my male bettas. I guess it all depends on the fish :dunno:
The most timid of my males was the first to rip his shrimp limb from limb. The one betta who didn't kill his shrimp really enjoys it, though. If you try it and it doesn't work out well, at least your betta enjoyed a live fresh meal

Actually one of my male bettas started out being nice to the shrimp. No problems at all. At most he'd just follow it around and watch it. I thought I finally had a comraderie.

Lasted about 4 days. Then the eyeballs went missing.
