My Ghost knife fish has got a small white clumpy patch near his tail. He isn't swimming normal, all his fins are moving very little and he is swimming in a very strange way. I havnt got a clue what is wrong with him. I have turned the temperature up to 29 C as im also having trouble with the other fish. At first i thought it was white spot and have been treating the others for that but they have been getting worse. The patches on the other fishes are cloudy and more like patches than small spots and they are just on the fishes fins. Does anyone know what could be the matter? Thanks, Joemuz  :-(

Fungus is a common secondary disease to Ich. Does the white look like cotton wool?

Does the patch look fluffy or like a cauliflower.
Do the patches run along the back and come down the sides to form a saddle shape.
Water stats would be good in ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and ph.
How many gallons or litres is the tank.
How many fish and which type.

I will refer to the mollie as 'she' and the knife fish 'he' from now on to stop any confusion.
It is like a tiny cauli-flower on the mollie (she) (rest of mollies are fine now) and the knife fish looks a bit better. I have a 54 L
He is moving his fins propperly now and swimming right :look: Hope he gets better.
I put the temp back down to 26 c last night and the knife fish looks better now. Could that of been it, the temperature?

3 neon tetra
1 knife fish
1 sailfin pleco 5.5"
1 clown pleco
1 cory
2 gourami
3 mollies
1 guppy
1 koolie loach

Im putting the following in my new 180L next week

knife fish
sailfin pleco
dwarf pleco
koolie loach
cory

have you tested your water?

the tanks pretty overstocked and bad water quality might be making your fish ill.

even a 180l isnt big enough for some of your fish and that plec will be causing alot of waste.

Why what fish is gonna out-grow a 180L tank on my stoking list?
The 5.5" plec and the 4" knife fish will be fine in there for the time being. My water is PH 7 and 26 degrees C
Cheers Joemuz

out grow means they will grow.

so yea they might be fine now but the BGK should get to 20" and the plec should reach 2ft.

they wont have room to do that in a 180l. they wouldnt even have room to turn around.

you need to be lookin at 180 gallons not litres.

wasnt trying to point out the stocking problems tho. jus saying big fish = big waste = bad water = ill fish.

Thats why i clean my filter and do water changes.
If the BGK and sailfin are 4" and 5.5" i think it will be a while before they Out-grow a 180L. Im see your point but i make shure my water quality is good and do water changes regularly. Im not here to talk about how big they will grow as i have that covered for now, and i will jump that wall when i get to it. But lets jump this wall first. Now lets get back to the real problem, what is up with my BGK. Thanks, Joemuz

It is like that but slightly smaller and there is more than one lump. In fact there is about to but they are a bit smaller and are not as large in height. (top of spot is closer to fishes fins) I hope its ok as i dont have a spare tank and my fry are in my breeding net so i dont know what to do. The knife fish is ok now i think.
He keeps lying on the tank bed like he is asleep and when i tap on the side of the tank a few times he gets up and swims off perectly normally without any struggle at all. Cheers, Joemuz

It will look like a cauliflower to a cluster of berries.
Black knife fish do lay on there sides.

Phew, im glad that my knife fish is fully recovered. I was worried about him lying on his side. That is so cute if they are ment to do that
The other fish has started producing the clumpy patches on his body as well, i want him out the tank but i cant kill him (that would be awfull) and havnt got anything to keep him in. What shoulfd i do? Thanks for all the help, Joe

Best to follow the info on them links I left.
Usually you move the healthy fish into a quarantine tank, as when the growths burst it infects the tank.
