There are the stats of my tank water

18° dGH
12° dKH
8.4 PH

All of these seem somewhat high to me, but the community fish seem perfectly happy and healthy and have been for the past few years. I've never fiddled (or had to) with any water chemistry alterations.
However, now I'd like to attempt a breeding project with some of my L255's (spotted Medusa plec's) but the above parameters are too high for them to spawn. Soo... I have done some reading and found this article http://www.drhelm.com/aquarium/chemistry.html in this thread http://www.fishforums.net/index.php?showto...201&hl=lower+gh which I think is pretty brilliant in explaining mostly everything about PH, KH and GH in a nutshell.

So my question is this: do I even attempt to lower those stats for a specialist species tank or not bother as it's too fiddly ? If I understand correctly, it seems as though I can lower the GH by gradually using more and more RO water over a period of time ???? Other than that, my water temperature is good at around 28°C and I have a power head for strong current, caves and more than adequate filtration etc.

Input and ideas welcome.

By using R/O water and reclaim chemistry minerals you can easily tailor your water parameters to suit the species you want to breed. If you want to lower your pH, KH and GH this is the safest and easiest way to go about it.
