Hello All,
can some of you tell me how long in days/weeks was before you put plants then fish into your new set up tanks?
& what was your breed of fish? (tropical fish)

Hi and welcom to the forum :) !
You dont have to wait any time to start up your tank, what you do need to decide on is how to cycle your tank as this is a very important process as far as the tank enviroment and fish are concerned- this link below will tell you everything you need to know on how to successfully set up a new tank :) ;

My fish species? Too many :lol: ! Most of my fish species/types are guppys, platys, plecs, corys, khuli loaches, neon tetras, danios, white cloud mountain minnows, plus some others...

How many gallons is your tank? I can help you decide on what sort of stocking/fish is best for your tank :thumbs: .

Hi thank you for the welcome,
my tank holds about 30 uk gallons
i did use to have tropical fish, years ago, but a bit rusty on setting one up again, hubby kept marine fish, i helped out sometimes

Im i doing this right?

I added safe guard (Anti-stress)(Makes tap water safe for fish)removes harmful chlorine & chloramines, Removes excess ammonia in the tank ,
it says on the bottle to add to any new setting up tank,

Then ive added Stress Coat ( fish & tap water conditioner)- says to use it whilst setting up a new tank

But i have a bottle of Stress Zyme ( Biological filtration booster) it says on the bottle :first use stress coat (which i have done), then it says next, on the 1st, 7th, & 14th days add stress zyme, which i havnt used any of it yet..oh noo im i doomed?..hubby said i didnt need to use it yet, when i was setting the tank up on monday,but he didnt tell me either i should have put it in on day 1 ?,, now its thursday & i have no stress zyme in the tank,

should i quickly put some in now & count today ( thursday) as day 1?

i bought 4 plants today aswell & theyre now in the tank..will all of this mean i have to wait even longer before i can add fish?

If you read about on this forum a bit you'll find that most people say that biological filter boosters or anything in a bottle that supposedly helps to colonise your filter are a complete waste of money. I'm fairly new to fish keeping but decided, after a little research here, to do a fishless cycle with ammonia hydroxide solution to make bacteria colonise my filter. Just search the forum and you'll find loads of info. about how to do it. All you need as well is a master water test kit to check your nitrate, nitrite and ammonia levels. If you follow it all through you'll end up with all the good bacteria you need to deal with your fish poop in a few weeks and can stock your tank almost completely full from the start. Hope that helps
