I have recently bought a co2 unit and started EI, but my question is if i had algae in the tank to start with am i fighting a losing battle? ive got the dark algae growing on the leaves of the plants and it doesnt seem to be slowing down! Do you think i should take all the plants out & start again?
:S

Depends on how heavy the algae infestation is. If its really bad I would be tempted to remove the affected plants if you can afford to. If not just stick with the EI and keep the CO2 at 30ppm or above and you should find it goes. I assume you have amano shrimp in there? There are great at clearing algae up.

TBH even if you have a massive aglae outbreak as long as the plants are still alive they should fight it off eventually no matter how bad it is. Just depends if you can live with it in the mean time!

I have got 2 plec & otto's, Themuleous i have been looking for them shrimp for ages but cant find them :/ at the moment ive just crammed plenty of plants in there to battle the algae see where it gets me! All the plants are pearling and look healthy so hopefully the algae may settle down.

p.s Themuleous the plants you gave me a growing great!! ive spread it to three tanks now, the baby bettas love to hide in it!!
