Hello there!
These are my fishes in my 60 litre tank to date:

1x Platy
1x Neon Tetra
3x Tiger Barbs
2x Lyretail Guppy
5x Diamond Tetra
5x Harlequins
2x Golden Zebra Danios
8x Fancy Guppy
1x Armoured Shrimp

And I am just wondering if I can get a Platy for a little bit of company for my one and only Platy in the bunch. I just think she look so alone with no other Platy around, same with my one and only Neon Tetra. But am I overstocked already that getting more fishes in should be avoided or can I get away with it?

Thanks a lot in advance.

Sorry - your tank is overstocked already for a 60 litre.

Maybe you could rehome the neon tetra as they are really shoaling fish.

The tiger barbs are known as fin-nippers so don't be surprised if your find some of your guppies missing bits of tail at some point. They are not a good mix really - and the barbs are better kept in shoals of at least 6 to keep aggression levels low - but you can't add any more to that tank.

Can I ask a few questions?

1. How long have you had this tank with fish set up?
2. How was it cycled?
3. How often are you doing water changes at the moment?
4. What type of filter/aeration do you have?
5. Do you have a liquid testing kit to check your water stats?

Regards - Athena

if i were you i would rehome the tiger barbs and either the platy or neon. then which ever one you keep, get more of them

Even if you rehomed the tigar barbs the tanks stocked fully.
Research the fish before you buy as some of the fish you keep are not compatable.

1. I had the tank set up Feb '09
2. It was cycled fish less and we only put the 6 harlequins after 2 weeks (we've lost one after 5 or 6 weeks)
3. Water changes once a week about 25%-30%
4. I have a Juwel Filtersystem and its both bio and mechanical. I don't have an additional aeration just the ripple that the filter creates.
5. I must admit I don't have the liquid but I do have the API Nitrates/Nitrites testing strips, the only liquid tester I have is the for ph.

Opps! Sorry mis-information about the Tiger barbs, I actually have the Five-Stripped Barbs. And we do ask the LFS first if they're compatible before buying the fishes. If I have some incompatibility issues please let me know so I can do something about it. Thanks

I wouldnt neccessarily say you have incompatibility issues, more the fact you are very overstocked. Overstocking in some cases can be manageble, providing you are willing to up the water changes , i would be doing roughly 30% and then 10% in a week to keep ammonia levels down. I would also be concidering adding extra filtration, as the juwel isnt particulally strong to begin with.

Definatley no to adding more fish. The platy will do okay alone, the neons need a shoal ideally but there isnt alot you can do with regards to adding more unless you want to rehome it.

DOnt get any mopre fish hun
but rehome the neon and the danios - these are not happy in numbers of less than 6 and then either the barbs , harlequins or tetras 1 group of these rehomed with the neon and the 2 danios will definately lighten the load on the tank
