A few weeks ago I started treating my betta with melafix because some people on the betta section of the forum said his fins were torn.

I treated for a week and did a 25% water change like the bottle said. Then I treated for another week because he wasn't better. Then another 25% - 50% water change. His fins still aren't big and flowing like some bettas are. I think they're as good as they're going to get.

There is still Melafix in the tank. I can tell because there are still a ton of bubbles on the top of the tank. How should I get rid of it? Will a 100% water change get rid of it, or is there going to be a lot of residue left on the decorations and tank walls?

He's in a 2 gallon hexagon tank with UG filter/air pump.

I'm not 100%, but i would say activated carbon would do the job.

Just add a little carbon to your filter for about a day and it will remove it all. You can also dilute it pretty well with a couple 50% water changes if you don't want to mess with the carbon.

I'm not sure how I would add carbon to a UGF. I guess I'll just try a larger water change.

But would it hurt to just leave the Melafix in the tank a while longer? Chase's fins seem to be getting a little better, it's just not happening as fast as I thought it would.

Melafix will never do more harm it can only help. So just keep doing water changes and that will help clear out hte melafix. I have seen carbon cartridges for actual UGF, but since you say he's in a 2 gallon hex, i'm taking it. It's one of those filters with just a bubbler, so you can't really add carbon?

You will be fine t leave it in there. Just do your normal water changes and it will eventually get diluted. As for his fins, it takes quite a while for a betta's fins to completely grow back to normal.
