Getting fish mail order?

Just considering ordering some fish in from the uk company Trimar..

But how successful IS 'posting' fish?! Does it work or is it more likely to prove too much for the fish in question?

It works but if it's anything like in the US, you pay a lot of money for the shipping costs.

I've had about 3 or 4 deliveries from Trimar - never had any problems at all. The fish are all packed individually, with oxygen and a heatpack. Every fish in my cichlid tank came from them, and i've never had any illness or deaths. Quite a few of the shrimps I got died, but I think that's cos they got eaten - nothing I can blame on Trimar!

It is pricey- but I don't mind paying for the convenience and to get the last few fish I wanted for my tank- they are not at my usual lfs- but do they arrange the delivery time so you WILL be in?!! Not good for fish to be left sitting at the PO...!!?

Trimar is £10 - not that bad. I've had a whole box of fish, some plants and 3 bags of sand delivered for £10. Yep, when you order over the phone they ask you where you're going to be and arrange to get the fish delivered where there's gonna be someone there to receive them. I get them delivered to work then nip home for an hour to acclimatise them. If I run out of time I leave them in the rolled down bags, floating, just keep the lights off and the lid on tight.

Just make sure that you are present when the fish are delivered (either at home or at work). A member (or perhaps former-member) had his fish delivery stolen.....but it was also delivered a day early and was unexpected. Fish will handle the trip just fine; How do you think the lfs and lps get them? They travel in bags!

I've used Trimar before and they are good.
Though saying that, one fish was dead on arrival (but it was individually bagged) - though Trimar gave me an instant refund.

Any decent company would offer a refund or exchange on DOA's so that's always a good sign.
