I was wondering. If someone did move from thailand to the European Union. Would i need an import license to receive bettas from them? As they are in the same continent etc? i was told i wouldnt need one. But i just need to make sure :)

Hmmm little confused as to why someone would need to move from Thailand because thats irrelevant.

But seriously no you dont need import licence to recieve fish from other EU country. All that happerns in some cases is the consignment will have a vet stamp to say the consignments been processed correctly. from inside Eu and thats it.
Licence only required for imports outside of Eu/approved "safe" farms

Is there a limit to the amount i can receive then? say like from France or something?

And if the person was moving from thailand TO the EU and wanted to bring a couple of bettas, pellets for food and IAL leaves/seeds with him. Would they need a license for that?

Bret

No limits.
Do you have a supplier for the fish you want to import?
Basically there is no minimum order for amount of fish you buy, but there is a minimum charge for airfreight, which is around Euro300 = £220approx which is based on 100kgs.
So with that in mind you would pay £220 freight for 1 box same as £220 for 8 boxes.
Catch what Im saying?

Yes, they would need documents to bring the stuff into the country they are entering

I've seen people importing from OUTSIDE the EU who have paid less than that :/ £160 ive seen them pay every time FROM thailand... So how come its even more and i have to pay so much for shipping!

Not to be mean, but not all countries in the EU allowed fish to be imported/exported without a license. I don't know details or anything, but I know that Holland for one does not allow the import or export of fish without a license. I know of quite some betta breeders that have massive problems with this.

Then again, when we informed if we'd be ok transporting our pet fish with us on the train from Holland to England they were pretty ok about it. Larger quantaties, or fish that you do not keep as pets need a license in Holland.

They must have ordered more than one box and then divided the total shipping and divided it by number of boxes to get price per box to be £160
Air cargo have minimum charges which is the charge for 100kgs. Trust me, I just brought 9 boxes in from Peru and the freight cost 700euros, which is the minimum charge. Then ontop you have to pay VAT and duty. Then you have to have a agent to clear boxes and stuff.
So I can not assure you if they paid £160 freight, then its part of a consolidated order with other people to get the weight up.

No licence is needed to ship fish from Holland to UK or vice verse. or any other EU country.
