Getting A Tank

I am planning on getting my son a 29 gallon fish tank for christmas,( hes only 2, and Ill be taking care of the tank)I havent had a fish tank in along while and I have a few questions. Planning on getting Platys , and Mollys , and a frog, Maybe a couple of ghost shrimp. I was just wondering after setting up the tank and waiting a few days how many Platies should I get to start the cycle, and How often do I need to do water changes? And how much should I remove

Is stress coat better than Aqua Safe? Can I use both together.
*Ill be using salt in the tank, because I read it helps with diseases, and stress*

Will salt and Melafix Cure all fish diseases? * planning on buying it just to have on hand, JUST INCASE!*

Any advice Ill be appreciated!

Mollies are Brackish more than they are freshwater & Brackish means Marine salt not aquarium salt.
Perhaps you could try a fishless cycle instead so you won't create problems with fish dying however if you wanted the tank cycled by Christmas you would need to buy it now....

MelaFix doesn't cure all disease while it does help some it doesn't really help for strong strains of diseases it's more of a all round help for early signs of diseases and a good med for healing wounds
