:hyper: all righty. so, I have to sign a contract to keep my room picked up.

In doing this, my ten gallon becomes a 30 (at my expense)

so here's the plan...

A: Use X-mas cash to get the tank, filter, heater, substrate (fine black gravel probably...), and good lights
B: Plant a bit first
C: Begin to stock using cloning.
D: get c02

so how do you all get 2 watts per gallon? Home depot or what? Because the highest any lfs carries would be.... 20 watts for this kind of lighting.

also, what should I plant it with? I'm sure some of my excessive onions, and maybe even centerpiece bogwood could go in, but I figure some new stuff is in order.

it's a 3 foot long standard 30.

thanks to lack of encouragement from the planted section despite 25 views, there will be no pictures of my planted tank on this forum. Good job.

Hmmmm. just a thought, did it occur to you you posted this on chritmas eve and by saying this you are probably discouraging more people to respond.

If you don't have a good lfs you can order compact fluescent bubls online or buy a versa top and stick two strip lights on it, or other stuff to get hight wpg.

did I also realize that there was still a huge amount of activity about here then? I was on almost all day and saw that.
Otherwise It wouldn't have ended up half way down the page with 25 views and not a single response

Anyways, with the death of the elephant nose comping into play as a factor, I'm thinking of another plan.

I'm probably moving too fast. A new tank isn't needed. what I'll do is put the brochis into the 10 gallon.
Then I'll get a shoal of glowlites for my lil buddies to, and up the filtration by putting my whisper 30 on it, while getting another 50 for the 38.

I'll also get c02 for the tank, and better lights, as well as moon lighting.
I mean, I could leave for college in a year and a half. Looking ahead, getting another bigger tank probably isn't smart.

Sorry Gankatsuou

I was busy during the festive part but, just read your message, and I was wondering the same a few weeks ago.

Problem with 30g tanks (mine is 29g) probs the same. They use 24" tubes and these total out at 20W or more commonly 18W
If you see a lot of the guys on here they make their own hoods and then fit multiple tubes into them (i.e. mine is a Fluval Deep with 2x 20W in the original hood)

These guys put 3 or 4x20W in their hoods and that makes 80W 2.6somethinWperG. On ebay there are lots of suspended hoods, quite cheap but they are the sort that dont 'surround' your tank top. they hang over the tope but these are the 4 x whatever (dependant on the length hoods) and they don't stop fish jumping out.

On mine I have 2 x 20W with regularly cleaned reflectors. I am going to go fully planted with CO2 soon (currently a few plants) so I will let you know how I get on.

Considering substrate and filters. Deco etc. there is approx 22g water to 40W light so there will be (I am using my calc this time)................1.81818181818181818 per gallon

I'm thinking of just buying one of those, as I learned today that's what a lot of guys do.

Instead of doing the 30, for now I'm gonna stick to "Pimping" out my 38. I got c02 injection and fertilizer today, as well as the final shoal numbers for the Portholes (4)

The brochis went into the 10, along with a shoal of glow lites (I have 6 now). It will have a betta too. that should be final after I get rid of the Red tail blue loach.

as I said in the last post. I'm dropping the 30 and pimping out my current 38 and my 10.

I just don't seem to get much love in this section, as now my planted journal update is just gliding down the page without replies on the update. I mean, is it so perfect that no one has suggestions?

Suggestions on what?? This forum is not as visited as tropical chit chat or members fish and pictures.
Maybe it would help if you showed the photos you took of your pimped out tank and we could go from there.

Disgruntled and Tiredly yours,
Kuhni

For the record (this caught me out) the 'rule' is watts per US Gallon (which is less than a UK Gallon).

I got the W's p G's up by DIY'ing in another couple of tube clamps and a reflector into the available space on my Jewel Rekord 60 lid. It was a bit of a git to do, but if you have the right bits it'll look as if it were in there from day 1.

Right down the page in the fourm in my planted journal

but there's a link anyways kuhni.
And that's why I'm kinda upset. I posted and no one replied within all of these other replies, including several in this post which I'm contemplating droping since I won't be getting the 30.

edit:
And the bulb is 96 watts, more than enough for 38 gallons

As was already said, this forum isn't always visited. My 10g journal hasn't had any real comments on it since yesterday. It just takes some time... I wouldn't worry about it much.

Well not like you saying this stuff here is helping but what exactly is on your tnak now and what does it look like?

atm

p.s. If you don't post pics you get less views.
