Hi All

As some of you know from my previous posts im getting a new tank in the next few days and i am using media from my fluval edge to cycle it.

currently in my Edge i have a large algae problem thats been going on for a little while and iv been getting along by just wiping it off and cleaning the tank down, so once my new tank has cycled im going to rehome my betta into the new tank and finally sort out my algae problem in my Edge. The easiest way i can see of doing this is by emptying the tank and cleaning the whole lot out, i asked my local Pets At Home how would be the best way of doing it this way and they said bleach the whole tank/gravel/plastic plants/wood/decorations anything in the tank bleach it.... Bleach? Seriously? a remember seeing somebody mention bleach a little while ago on here but i cant find it

is there a better way to get rid of all the algae rather than using bleach? or is bleach the best way to go about it?

Oh and Happy New Year to you all :drink: :-

you could get a small algae eating pleco? xx you can also get special magnets that go either side of the glass, when you move one side of the magnet, the otherside in the tank follows cleaning all the algae x

i asked about some sort of algae eater a while ago when the problem first came about and i was simply told no as they would out grow the 23L tank and i have the algae magnets there fine for the glass but its still growing on the decor even when i wash it off it still comes back

You need to find out the problem, cleaning it will do nothing as it will be back soon enough. Ammonia + light = algae. How long are you lights on per day and what's your stocking in your edge?

i never had a problem with my water params or algae until i decided to upgrade the lights to a bit of over kill for the tank then the problems came so i switched back to the original halogens that came with the tank, the tank lights are on for 7 hours a day set on a timer and i only have a single Betta in there i did have 3 tetras but i rehomed them in a friends tank about 7 weeks ago i do regular 25% water changes every week and test the water every time before i do the water change and mid week (some say i test a little too much but better safe than sorry)

forgot to mention its in no direct sunlight either.

but as im shutting this tank down for a while when i get my new tank delivered im not too bothered in finding out the problem just wanting to know the best way of cleaning the whole thing so i dont get it back when i come to set it back up again
