Get My Own Rocks For The Tank?

I was just wondering instead of buying a bunch of rocks for my tank set up, would I just be able to go out into the woods and find and dig up my own? I would boil them before introducing them to kill anything that might be on them. I was told this was ok to do. Is this generally a safe practice or no?

Another important thing is the rock test: to see if the rock is suitable put vinegar on it: if it dissolves it is no good. Basically you do not want anything that will effect the water conditions in your tank: hence this test covers most of these.
