Well I went to my LFS to pick up a blue steel, and I got to looking around, and I saw some "longed-finned rams" He had three in with some type of live bearer, I'm not sure what kind. I got the more dominant of the 3 now. I read that they are hardier than apistogramma, which makes me happy, because I am totally a novicce when it comes to fish. I have him in a 10 gallon with 6 neon tetras. I fed him blood worms this morning (frozen) I put enough in the tank for the tetras also, but they wouldn't eat them so the ram had a BIG mean. And he has had what looks like a blood worm comming ojut of his bootie. Will he finally pass it because it has been there since this morning, I don't think I will be feeding him tonight because he has a FULL stomasch, I can thell because there is a part of his body that is bulged out. Also, will he be okay with the tetras, and will he be fine by himself? Any help will be greatly appriciated, thank you. :good:

you got a picture?

i think it might be a long finned german blue ram, which needs very good water quality, is softwater needs a warmer temp (mine are in 28C)

all the best

Most likely it is a long-finned german blue, I have three of them. But yeah, I'd need a picture to confirm :)
A small school of neon tetras like you have are actually great tankmates for a ram. They'll act as dithers so your ram will be more confident and you'll see him more.
but rams are very picky about water quality. It should be soft water with a low pH, like around 6-6.5. The best temperature is about 82 (28 C) give or take a degree or two.

I am pretty sure it is a German Gold Ram now that I have gotten to looking to pictures. Yeah at first the neons seemed scared of the ram, but now the neons love the ram, and I have seen the ram out more within the last 2 hours. I am sure it is a male now that I have read on how to sex him. I am hoping that I will be getting a picture of him soon. I keep him in a tank that is 24C in the morning and when I turn off the light at night it is 28C. Or 78F in the morning and 82F at night. So will he be fine on his own now that I am sure that he is a male? And what I was talking about, I think that the blood worm that I am seeing comming out of his vent is him having a ball movement. I think I WAY overfed him this morning.

dude your ram has callamanus worms if u see worms coming out of his vent. they result in death in a week or 2. I would definatly get that check out or do good research. Also Long finned fish are generally Weaker and less hardy then the original strain of fish.

They are fine on there own.

Temp should stay around 82F for best possible results with rams. just make sure your other fish can handle it. you may need to have a bubbler going also considering the lower resulting oxygen from the warmer water.

mate we need pictures asap!

post this in emergencies! like Cichlidguy said, he could die :(!!!

Well, he doesn't have it comming out of his vent right now. He is not a long finned ram, he is a German Gold Ram. I am deffinately going to get them checked out. He only has them when I fed him blood worms.

just keep an eye on him though mate

must say happened to a little ram of mine when i had him

I read that garlic can help this. I want to add some. Can I add a 1200mg garlic supplement liguid gel into the filter? Or can I soak his food in it? How should I use the garlic, because I am GOING to. :good:

He is not a long finned ram, he is a German Gold Ram.

What is the "long finned ram" Thread title all about then

Because that is what he was labeled at the LFS. He Might be a Long Finned German Gold Ram, if that is even possible lol. But I was kind of convinced that is what he was at first.

Do you have a piccy mate? would love to see it.

i have 6 gold rams myself, never heard of a long finned though!!

Well, I have some pictures, but they aren't worth the scum between a frogs toes that lives in an underground sewer. You can see the fish, but can't even deccifer what type of fish it is from the photo. I would only embarass myself by putting them on this forum, not becauswe of the fish, but because of the quality of the photos. :good:

EDIT: On my post in the emergencie section the person with the tweetie brid avatar (God bless you, I don't know your name) that has posted in a lot of the emergencie posts, posted on mine saying that the callamanus worm is only visible when stationary and when the fish moves the slightest the worm will retreat back inside of the intestine. Well when I say him the day I knowticed it, I saw him movingg him a lot! And the "worm", which now I believe is feces, was still hanging there. I will contuniue to feed him regular flake food mixed with garlic gel cpas until sunday night. He seems to love tthem any way and it is the only food that the tetras will eat off of the gravel.

I would like to that all of you that have helped me in this situation. God Bless you all. :thanks:
