Hi there,

Try this >

'Blue rams' can be sexed using a variety of characteristics. The males
are generally larger (most prominent in adults), have slightly longer
fins (dorsal) and lack the blue spangles in the black mid-lateral spot
found in the females. Wild fish are very easy to distingush, but the
cultured varieties may be a little harder, assuming both sexes are
present. If I were asked for one reliable difference, I would say the
blue spangles within the black mid-lateral blotch is the best method (it
also works on young fish and the cultured varieties).

The female is smaller than the male, the female wil also have blue spots inside the black spots on her sides

The males black "punk" bits will spike taller than the rest of his pectoral fins and I think the males have more orange on their face

i bought three of these today! the females are smaller and have a pink belly, whereas the male has a yellow belly

Females normally have a red patch on their belly if they are content.
The males are larger like the others said from what i can see in the picture the female is the one on the left.

So I have like 4 differnt opinions. Craaaaap. I really can't get a better picture, thats the best one. I thought males were bigger, but apparently they don't have blue? Females have pink bellies but the bigger one has a pink belly, sometimes the smaller one has one too. Sometimes the small one has some blue too. Im utterly confused-can you tell?

I have a male and female. Both have the blue colouration but the female has a bright pink spot on her underside just behind her pelvic fins. The male doesnt have this pink spot..he's much more yellow.

Here are some pics i found on the net..

HTH :)

edit: also, if you happened to have two males, you would probably be seeing some aggression...chasing and such.

Thats weird, in the second picture-the female, she has the long fins on top. I thought only the males had this-only one of my fish have them.

100% positive that its a male (left) and female (right). Internet should back me up :)

besides they look as if they are swimming together, which probably means u got a pair

They would fight if it were two of the same sex
