Can anyone help tell the difference between these two GBRs, the one in the top left and in the middle

The top left is bigger, obviously, but also has more of a black line across the eye and is more translucent, the middle one is more brownish and sort of peppered in colour

Could they be male top left, and female (middle)

They look more like bolivian rams to me. The german blues are more colourful (any that I've seen) I maybe wrong.

^^Sorry, probably should have stated that they are juveniles... hence the lack of colour lol

It's too hard to tell at the monent with them being so young; they look a bit stressed out as well; are they new?

Give them a while to grow (and settle in) and take some more pics then :)

sorry for not replying sooner. i cant tell at present but maybe someone else may be able to help

They are kinda new, about 3 weeks. I have just finished treating for whitespot, so maybe the reason for stress...

For the future, here's some tips on sexing rams for you so you know what to look for :)

Males have; no blue speckles in the black spot and no black on the ventral fins. The anal fin is longer (extending out under the tail) and is more pointed. The same is true of the dorsal fin; the back of that will be pointed in males. The first two rays of the dorsal fin will grow very long (I've had males where the extensions ended up longer than their whole body!)

The females do have blue speckles across the black spot and black on the ventral fins, plus a shorter (does not extend past the caudal peduncle) and rounded shaped anal fin. The dorsal fin will also have a rounded rear top edge. Females may also depelop pink colouration on the belly.

But, just a a cautionary note; I've had females that grew extensions on the dorsal fin and that never had pink bellies! The shape of the anal and dorsal fins are the most reliable markers.

Thanks for that.

I got 4 of these and there is definately a clear difference between them. 2 are like top left in the pic and 2 are like the middle fish. Im wondering whether maybe 2 are GBRs and 2 are Bolivian possibly. The pic is not as clear as it looks when comparing them

The ones in the pic are both GBRs.

Have a google of both kinds; they're very easy to tell apart; Bolivians don't have the bright turquoise speckles of the GBR.
