German Blue Ram colors

Does it take a while for German Blue Rams to get their vivid coloring?

I was at the LFS to order a pair of them. The guy said they already had the German Blue Rams, but I looked and they didn't look like it. The rams they had were brown in color with darker vertical bands. The fish were about 1.5" to 2" (there were only 2). I don't think these were blue rams. But I could be wrong. Anyway, I special ordered them, and I think he's getting 8 more of them. But I told him "the blue rams with the black spot on the side with flourescent colors". If he gets more of what they have, and they turn out not to be blue rams, I wouldn't be at fault for not buying them would I?

I know some fish lose color when they are stress but those sound like Bolivian Rams.

so there is no way that a Blue Ram would be brown colored with dark vertical bands? I thought this was self-explanatory, but one can't know everything.

you can indeed get brown "Blue" rams, i have had a couple, i think they were bred in Singapore and got that colour strain

I think it was a bolivian now. It looked alot like this one:

I hope the guy understood me and is getting some blue rams, I think those are alot prrtier.
