I'm sure a few of you will have seen this video from George Farmer but just wanted to share it as I think its quite interesting.

I just want to start it off by saying I'm a huge fan of Georges, he really got me back into the hobby and in turn helped a lot with my mental health and actually part of helping me start to work on my physical health now I think about it too.

This is quite an interesting video as while he has 'fixed' a lot of his issues in the tank I know there are going to be things in this video that grate on members here which I can see already; but given George is such a trend setter in this hobby (pretty sure thats undeniable) he's gone a bit full circle with the aquarium hobby and back to a set up focused on the fish and he's turned off his Co2, removed the aqua soil and increased his aeration. And you can see in the video that its pretty instantantanious results.

My gripes still with this tank would be (and I'd guess others would agree); Stenker Discus - I personally am ok with these and am happy to go along with these strains that have been bred for basically 100 years in hard German water but I can see why others wouldnt, on the same theme the Lemon Tetras wouldnt be my first choice given he's got the specific Discus to deal with hard water (but they do look incredible). As interesting as it is that he has taken the planted aquarium paraphanalia out (Co2, soil etc) I think he should have left some plants in, big chunks of moss on the wood, big Anubias, Swords or Crypts would still grow in this set up and I possibly think the tank is too bright for Discus like this - though they are obviously doing much better here.

I actually think its a really brave move from him too - he talks about how his ego was stopping him doing this which I think is easy to see from other YouTubers - but he's pushed through that to go down a different route and learn some lessons to grow and develop rather than rescape the tank and move the fish on.

Just wanted to share as feels interesting to see someone so influencial in aquascaping (arguably the fastest growing part of the hobby) moving into a purely fish only set up with the intention of putting fish health above all else (something aquascapers are often accused of not doing).

ps; I imagine he has his shirt off because the rescape was soaking him - doing nothing to disprove the steriotype of aquascapers being hench though haha.

I don't know about no plants at all, but turning CO2 off is definitely a good thing
a few floating plants would probably do a world of good for his fish, and maybe some anubias or moss for aesthetic like you said

Such beautiful fish!!

I know that the lemon tetras swimming like that would do my head in, they look like they are wanting to go somewhere but there is nowhere for them to go. I think the Lemon Tetras looked happier in the planted tank. The Discus have lightened up mainly because of the base medium. It will be interesting to see this tank 12 months down the track. Did he say this was only three days after he took the plant out, if so, I would say it is a little early to tell what is happening.
