Hi'

Got two of these at present (might get more once the tank is upgraded) , now from what i was told when i brought them a few months back theyre fairly slow growing . One of mine seems to have shot up in size over the other one . One is about 2-3 inches , the larger is about 4-5 inches when i got them they were the same size. Is this likely to different sex'd fish ?

Are they fairly slow growing species? the smaller one hasnt grown all that much. Theyre true Geo Surinamesis , i'm aware of what they will grow to , theyre ina 4ft long tank atm but will be upgrading this year to a 4x2x2.

theyre gorgeous fish and very placid , swim at the glass staring at me constantly. Proper pig's to , the larger one took a whole bloodworm cube , that much so it was coming out of the gill's :S

They arent particularly slow growers, the larger is probably eating more and either male or more dominant. I used to have too, one also grew more quickly than the other, as was clearly the more dominant, nothing aggressive but would chase the other when food was in the tank to ensure he got the lion share.

Any chance of pics, might be able to tell the sex, although still quite small so maybe not easy to tell.

I'll try getting some pics when i get in from work, yeh i did notice one tends to pig the food the other doesnt. If theyre growing at different rates is it likely that the larger will pick on the littler one ? when i watch them now the larger one every once in a wile chases the other one away from his log thing it has.

He wont pick on it as such, but he will claim his own area and chase him away, try feeding them at seperate ends if you can manage it, so that one doesnt always get the most food.
