So my biggest geophagus is sucking bubbles (air) from the bubbler tube and not eating. He comes out now and again to nip at the second biggest one. Used to be a voracious eater. Any ideas or suggestions? Otherwise he looks good, no color changes or bloat or anything.

Are you sure the fish isnt carrying a brood,g.jurapari are mouth brooders and it could explain the lack of eating and aggressive behaviour, dont know why it would be taking air bubbles though prehaps CM or maggie will be able to shed more light on that one?

I've only kept satanoperca (formerlly Geophagus) jurapari once (this was a group of wilds) and had no problems along these lines.

How many fish/jurapari are in the tank??

What size is the tank??

What are......

1. Ammonia

2. Nitrite

3. Nitrate

4. Ph

5. What type of substrate is in the tank. S. jurapari are substrate sifters and should have sand or very fine gravel as a substrate.

When you say "bubbler tube" do you mean an airstone/bubble wand??

How long has the tank been set up??

Maybe try a large water change?? This sometimes improves new world cichlids health.

Please let us know how things are going.
