Gentle Giant

got to admit that i won't be going down the co2/high tech route with my tank, never had the need and had this one looking smashing until the floating ferny stuff got a bit over-run. it's gone now. well i say it's gone, there's always a rogue bloody little plantlet. triffids, i tell you.

mmm i had my little tank looking quite nice until i decided to get Co2 and a fancy substrate, just got loads of algae now.

gonna change it back in a few weeks to a nice normal low tech set up, whenever i get 5 minutes and a few quid for plants!

So, the secret is masses of light?

Back to the Gourami, will they be OK on their own? ... or better in pairs? Thanks.

nope, i think it's too much light that's done for Ian's tank

to be quite honest i've no idea what the secret is, Ian seemed to have it for a while but it's gone now, my usual plant growing strategy is get some, keep them a few months until they start to die, throw them away and get some more

these two gourami's have always been kept in a pair (they were one of the first fish i bought with very little research) and have always been fine together however gourami's can sometimes be aggressive and if this is the case it's sometimes best to keep the aggressor alone or keep a few more of them together so that they spread then aggression out

 Sounds familiar! My LFS charge a small fortune for plants. Have to resort to an online source like Java Plants. I was really disappointed when my Java moss disappeared, thought they were easy.
There is only one plant in my that that is doing really well, in fact it thrives even when I pay no attention to it.

I think I will look into one giant gourami.

Thanks.

not the giant gourami!!! they get about 2 foot long i think!!!

just don't go for the dwarf varieties, you want something like opalines or pearls that get to 4/5" long :good:
