Hi, I just brought myself a 3 ft tank! im wondering will two green terrors and two convicts get along??? atm i have two green terrors and two eletric yellows are gettin along great! but i wanna add two convicts as they r amazing fish!!,

Replies asap will be thanked =)

Maybe just try the convicts as an alternative. I've read enough of convicts on here lately to make sick of the idea, even though I don't have any myself. I agree that they are beautiful fish, but the neverending breeding seems like it would tire real quickly. Each to there own, I guess. Heck, I'm getting tired of my parrots attempting to spawn all time also so I can be hypocrite without trying.

How big are the green terrors? I don't know too much about them but maybe they can be housed in your 3 footer temporarily? Actually, I can say I saw a foot long green terror today. I was at the LFS and saw one in a 100g us tank and it owned it. It literally was bossing around 2 big oscars, a flowerhorn and a frontosa so, I can only imagine the fights between two (assuming) pairs would pan out.

Good luck on your decision man

Unfortunatley the tank isnt large enough long term for the GT's as already said they can/should reach 12", whilst they are small 3-4" they are fine, after that unless you happen to get a m/f pair, they will fight and one will come off worst, most probably resulting in death.

The Electric Yellows are african (as Im sure you are aware) and are not compatible with GT's (long term) they require different water conditions and again will most likely be killed by the GT's.

Convicts would be fine for a 3ft tank, but not with that combination of fish.

My gts are a male and female pair, and quiet enjoy themselves, and completely ignore the electric yellows, atm the electric yellows and gts are both around 5 or 6 cm long!
Most people say that gts are really aggressive towards other fish, but in all seriousness my gts love my other fish and do not hassle them in the slightest! Same with my mates green terrors if anything they get chased by other fish n ignore all other fish in the tank!
I currently have a 2 foot tank with male and female gts and male and female electric yellows and no one is hassling anyone, so once i get my 3 foot up which will be in 2 weeks i will move them into that and buy two convicts, (also male and female pair). If they do not get along than i shall see which is the problem causers and remove them, as i like my tank to get along! Which currently they seem to be doing!

Cheers

At the size they currently are, no they are not aggressive, once they hit around 6" and start to mature, that is when they become a problem, I know from experience as do many other GT keepers, whilst, as with all cichlids its down to individual temprement as to what they will happily live with, its always best to have a back up plan for if/when things go wrong.

They still, however, require a minimum of a 4ft tank for long-term health and growth, but they are your fish, we can only advise and answer the questions put to us as best we can, if you choose to ignore the answers, that is of course, your business.

Hey i never said i would ignore your advise so why hit a negative from postive advice? no need for that! i thank you for your answer and will take it into consideration!!

Unfortunately people ignore advice alot around here, so don't take it personal Joshi39. It just gets old when someone asks for advice and then dosen't take it usually to the detriment of their stock.
