I walked into my living room the other day and glaced in the fish tank. I was instantly upset because one of my neon tetras had died, but then I saw a little fry dart off for cover. I started scanning the tank up and down and noticed about five fry hiding about. I wasn't even aware that one of my fish was pregnant, but the fry seem to have a dalmation print on them. I have dalmation mollies, but then I noticed that one lone fry had an orange tint, no dalmation pattern. I thought that the only orange ones I had are platy. Do mollies and platy inter-breed? Could an orange molly mistakenly made it in with the platy I bought? Does anybody know how I could go about identifying the mother?

Mollies and Platies will not and don't cross.

I very likely the fry are from the same female molly, as female livebearer females can store milt (sperm), it very posible for the female could have mated with a orange male, but the dalmation gene could be more dominant, thats why there more spotty ones.
