Just got a pair of german blue rams on wednesday and the female seems aggressive, i dont know if its normal ram behaviour or not since these are my first pair. One the first day in the QT tank they both seemed fine but the next 2 days the male lost a lot of colour and i noticed she was chasing him around a bit.
The last few days, hes regained his colour and stands up to the female. Last night i noticed she always starts the fights, she nips his body, gills and fins and lip locks with him. I also noticed one black neon tetra has lost part of its gill and wondered if it was her that took it?
So is it normal for rams to show this behaviour or should i try and get a replacement female that hopefully calmer?

forgot to mention sometimes they do this weird dance, flicking their bodys around each other but i dont see it that often

Are they definitely male & female, Pets at home sold me a "breeding pair" that turned out to be 2 males. The bigger 1 ended up bullying the other 1 to death.

Yep im pretty sure, the guy who sold them was too. One has pink on its belly and the other doesnt? And the female(the bully) is the smaller of the 2

just been checking this website and it says young pairs may fight a lot and im guessing by the fry pictures mine are only 3-6 months old. Should i maybe move them to the main tank today so they have hiding places?

That video doesnt look like fighting at all, looks more like flirting!

Your pair sound as if they are pairing up, make sure there is a few smooth rocks or slate around, so they feel comfortable to mate.

Rams can mate from the age of 6months.

wow, i really thought they were beating each other up. Ill try putting the female in with him again then :)
