Hi, i asked the question on here weather i should remove my aire pump when i added DIY CO2, the reply was mostly yes,

Now i have removed it most of my fish are gasping for air, some have started to swim at the top.

What should i do? is this normal?

thanks.

Remove the CO2 and get the air going.

Do you have surface agitation from your filter or is the water calm?
Do you know how to test for CO2 levels?

Have you checked ammonia and nitrite levels since introducing CO2?

some fish, such as my swordtails, used to "filter feed" up on top... after feeding, they will go up to the surface and do what seemed to be gasping. There is of course nothing wrong with filter feeding, jst confirm it before you do anything special.

I agree, check your water stats (ammonia, nitrite, nitrate, and pH) and do an immediate water change.

Is it possible anything got into your tank? I know people have had others cleain their tank's glass, or spray something in the air by the fish and ended up getting some chemicals in the tank.
