hi ive got a 55 g tamk with 6 young firemouth

tank stats: ammonia 0, nitrite 0, nitrate 35-50(london tap is crap)

ok since yerterday morning 1 of the firemouth is gasping (not at the top) in middle and lower sections of tank. she is still eating and looks fine apart from the gasping. she is sometimes hiding from the others though.

i dont think it is oxygen related, there is water surface movement and none of the others are gasping.

i suspect guill disease
the gills are red but there ment to be its a firemouth
could it be that she has swallowed a small stone from the substream and cant spit it out?(probly not)

what should i do, are there meds for guill disease?

If its gill disease then i would think more fish would be affected.

How long have you had them? I think 55 gallon isnt big enough for 6 and this one is feeling stressed.
I would add an airstone just to be sure its not oxygen related.
Have you tests for ammonia, nitrite, nitrate and ph?
How long has the tank been going and what filter are you using

i have 6 because i am trying to get a pair-they are small 2-2.5inch.-then others were to b removed when a pair formed
water stats are ok as stated above.
tanks been running for 2.5 month-the firemouth been in there for about 2-3 weeks, mabie it had a problem already and has only just started showing signs.
filter: eheim 2028

the fish has not improved at all -it is now hiding and doesnt eat now-seems to be in quite a lot of distress. however she looks healthy apart from gasping. here gills are visable and moving rapidly (dont show in pic)

sadly i am considering uthinasia if there is no change tomorrow-dont want it to suffocate and suffer

ne1 got an opponion?

Not sounding good once they get to this state if not water quality there isn't much to be done, are the gils red and inflamed, any signs of flicking and rubbing on objects.

yes the gills are red and large.but its a firemouth there gills are red neway, but they are very inflamed. there is no rubbing on anything-she just stay in the same position as in pic. is this problem likly to be infectious?
