realy nice coloring!! i thought mine was going that way... but didnt get so much red on him - your's is lovely

he's beautiful. Do you guys get your bettas by mail order? I never see anything like that in my LFS.

yeah i know what you mean all i see is the usual blue or red veiltails. not that theres anything wrong with them but they dont really inspire me to get another tank.

one of those in your pic however would get me spending cash on the spot.

come to think of it i'm glad i cant find them. got enough tanks already

then you guys better not look at Bettaman's website ;)
(it's dangerously easy to get them from him - if in stock of course. They go like hotcakes  )

I've been thinking about getting a betta tank, but I have 2 problems...

I can't find a tank, or container to fit on the fireplace (the only place I have room for a second tank) and I'm still deciding on whether its right to have a small tank that is never cycled and do 100% water changes, or to have a tank with a filter and risk having an unhappy betta cos of the current.

thanks guys for the compliments, acctually he did come from a "not so local" fish shop, I was on vacation w/ my g/f in Jacksonville, Florida (I live in Greensboro, NC) and we were at a believe it or not, Petland (franchise chain petstore) and they said they would be getting new fish in on the day we would be leaving to go home, so out of curiousity we stopped by to see what they got in and they had crowntails (first time they said they'd ever gotten crowntails in) so since g/f's last betta had just died a week or so before we decided to grab one up for 8.01 (tax included) I feel we got quite a steal. I'm glad we don't have these things around here locally or else I'd have more bettas then I knew what to do with as they are amazing looking fish.

Well, you could easily keep him in anything that is one gallon or more, a bowl, huge jar, vase (with no plant please) or even old coffee pots (cleaned out well) Bettas have been acclimated to 100% changes, and for a one gallon bowl it will need changing at least once a week. And if the bowl is in a room where the temp stays consistantly above 67% there is no issue. Good luck if you decide to get a betta, remember, the bigger the better when it comes to housing, heat it if you can, even a 5 gallon heater in a one gallon set extremely low. Filters CAN work, just kill the current with those bottle current killers, it is pinned in the betta section. A minibow might be a nice option for you, but they are pricey.

Very Cool.

I know. That what I dont like about my bettas.
What I've decided next time I get a betta tank is get a 2.5G bowfront starter kit, and keep the filter.

You say "But bettas dont like current."

And I say
"Sid'down foo! Let'mea' teach ya a leasson! Bettas dont like current. Correct. But if you get one of those 2.5G bowfront starter kits, they come with a wisper filter. The thing about waisper filters is that there's a very easy way toslow it down. You just fill the tank to the lip of the filter (The little lege like thing that the water last touches the filter). Then when It pushes water our, it only stirrs the top very slowly. Thats what I do!"

We don't get those kind of things in the UK. I need to decide between a bowl or a 5 gallon tank and stick a filter in.

I had a rio 90 in my betta tank, no problems as you can adjust the flow rate.

I've got a Fluval 204 canister in a 14gal with spraybar facing rear of the tank, he's as happy as larry in there, plus he's got his little tunnel to sit in if he feels things are moving too fast for him.

It's nice for him to have to chase after his food as he seems far more interested when the food is 'alive' rather than just sat there!
