Hi all, apologies for those who have already read this in common livebearers.

My very fat Dalmation Molly (female) who I believe is very pregnant and have been watching closely every day, last night appeared to have a clear stringy poo with some white bits in it? and I noticed this morning my new female platy who I also thought was pregnantm is doing the same?

Is this a sign of pregnancy and imminent babies or is it a parasite/bloating?

thanks everyone for replying to ALL my posts lol

heya, i think white stringy poo is most often a sign of internal parasites, you can get good products for worming at your lfs, but check on their effects on pregnant girls/bubs. hope this helps. :)

It is normal for fish to do that sometimes. It can also be from stress. As you said your female is pregnant so she may just be stressed.

No it's not normal... Actually it is like the first replier said, likely due to parasites. Normal poop is a brown or red color.

Well it's not always parasites, it can also be an internal bacterial problem. If it has air bubbles in it it is a sign of possible constipation. But I have seen and had fish do it, I have seen fish do this on a few occasions. They will also do it if they have not had food for a while, or they are stressed.

I'd include a link, but it's not allowed to be linked.

I've had fish do it too, and just because yours cleared up on it's own probably doesn't mean his will too. Its safer to medicate because it's a fact that healthy poop is brown or reddish.

Hmm ok, dont fight over it hehehe

One of my new platy's was dead last night so im doing a few water changes today as I cant test for ammonia yet and im taking dead fishy back to exchange for a new one as i only had them like a day or 2.

Oh and have ordered some pimafix too

Thanks all

Good luck with that. I've been using Methylene blue, acroflavin, and Maricide for days since my weird fish loss in my 46. Now all the bacteria are sure to be as done for as a pack of lemmings that fall of a cliff. I like analogies. :p
