I was just thinking; I can't help wondering how this all (MY fish-keeping) started. :lol: I remembered just lately, and I thought.... "Hmm, funny how that happens." How what happens, you ask? :lol: Well, read on.... ^^;

I remember when my one friend got her first Betta, Tabbeio. She was all excited, and, pretty soon, she had Dragon, and her goldfish, Pebbles, and her sister had Rainbow, and, umm.... Fire. ^^;

Her fish lived in tiny little containers, so they were pretty lethargic. :( I used to not like Bettas that much, and I didn't want to get one. However, then, my 7th grade teachers started up a new science project for Science.... ^^; They made little containers for Bettas out of 2-litre pop bottles, put some plants in there, and put a sort of "cover" on top, and then, they put crickets.... Not really sure why, LOLS, but there they were. ^^; It was rumoured that we could take a Betta home, if we got a signed note, so I got the signed note from my Mom, and sent it in. ^^;

However, then I switched schools. D: I asked my friend if I would still get a Betta; she said, probably not. I thought this was very unfair, as I now wanted the responsibility of taking care of a fish. What better way to do it than with this?! :)

Then.... One day after school, there was a knock at my door. My friend was panting, with the covered pop bottle in her hand, and a Betta sloshing around inside! ^^; I was so happy, and said thanks, and took the Betta into the kitchen. ^^;

Turns out I started off on the *RIGHT* foot, without knowing it. :p We didn't have a heater, *or* an extra filter for that tank, but we *did* have an extra 5-gallon tank! ;) My Mom washed it off, and we filled it with tap water, and let it sit over the heater for a few minutes. :) By this time, I was already studying the fish, and I decided that this strange little orange creature (well, she was so stressed, that she *looked* it, at the time! XD), should be named, Tropica. ^^;

Fast-forward to later that night. It was cold in the house, and we had no thermometer.... In fact, the tank was just, well, *bare*, with only some marbles on the bottom. Tropica was miserable. :( Me and my sisters kept pouring boiling hot water into the tank (only a little, though! :lol: ) and Tropica *seemed* happier, but the tank cooled down within 20 minutes. :(

The next day, me and my Mom went out, and we bought a couple of ornaments for the tank, including this one *really* expensive one :lol: (the palm tree ornament; it was 25 bucks! :hyper: ), and a heater. Also, a thermometer. Tropica was happier, but her heater *still* didn't do much. It just maintained the temperature at 20*C.

When we went on vacation, we took Tropica to a friend's house. I remember how we had to drive *slowly* around the bumpy parts on the road, as Tropica was in her tank, in shallow waters. :lol: It was dangerous, sure, but Tropica only arrived a *little* beaten up. ;D Actually, not at all; I'm assuming that she just buried herself in the rocks.... Or, or *somethings*. ^^; I remember how many pellets we fed Tropica that day; over 14 at one time! :lol: She came home somewhat bloated. XD Also, our friends had lent us a more powerful heater! ^^; I went out and bought another one like it, and returned *their* heater. :p

And the rest, as they say, since it's too long to write, is history. ^^;

Also, with the cories.... I went to a fish club just recently, and I won these two cories.... More in my topic labeled, "You Are Talking To The Proud New Owner Of Two Corydoras," if you would like to read it. ^^;

Funny how, with both kinds of fish, I was kind of all like, "Eughhhhh.... I don't like these fish." But, now, I am in love! :lol: And it all happened because of a school project, in the Bettas' case; and, in the cories' case, a guessing game, *and* an auction. ^^; :)
