I bought a betta today and he has funny growths on the dorsal fin that resembles tomato seeds sticking out. They are handing on the fin and looks like they are part of the fin and they don't come off.

Is this some sort of cancerous growth?? should I trim it off and let him grow it back?

That's really not a good idea. In the future, I would suggest waiting until someone can respond to you to help fix the problem. Cutting the fins off can lead to fin rot and other issues. What's done is done, though. I would definitely recommend treating with some Melafix to help heal the fins and prevent fin rot.

I am already dosing that tank with melafix because the females (the males have dividers) have funny sores. only 2 of them have it right now but its getting better.

The male is doing great so far and theres no fin rot yet. I will closely watch to see what happens. hes pretty happy and flaring at everyone.
