Hey I'm back again with the same problem, this time I can supply some pictures, not sure if they'll be able to show up well enough though, but it's worth a shot.

This is the best one, but I do have some more pictures.

It's just before his dorsal fin.

Is it fungus or are his scales just coming off?

The fish has columnaris, you need an anti external bacterial medication (not a fungal one) to treat this disease. More info on columnaris & its causes;

^ If it treats enternal bacterial infections then yes :) (can't say on its precise effectiveness as i haven't used it personally).

ParaGuardTM is the only fish and filter safe aldehyde based (10% by weight) parasite control product available. Unlike highly toxic and difficult to use formalin based medications, ParaGuardTM contains no formaldehyde or methanol and will not alter pH.

ParaGuardTM employs a proprietary, synergistic blend of aldehydes, malachite green, and fish protective polymers that effectively and efficiently eradicates many ectoparasites on fish (e.g. ich, etc.) and external fungal/bacterial/viral lesions (e.g., fin rot). It is particularly useful in hospital and receiving tanks for new fish and whenever new fish are introduced to a community tank. For use in freshwater or marine.
