Hi, I have just given away two male rainbow fish as they were harassing my other two wanting to spawn all the time, the others were really injured - fins and scales etc and I have just noticed one has fungus growing on the top lip....I have taken it out and into a quarintine tank but - no signs to other fish but should i treat the tank anyway or have I caught it early enough?

I had fungus in my tank a week or so ago and lost 2 fish as a result both due to infections from the damage the fungus had done. As far as treating i did the whole tank, i did not want spores to be in there just waiting to infect another fish.

I only have small fish so even small infections are as a rule terminal. I didn't want to take the chance.

One of my Platy's had a fungus on his top lip....i treated the whole tank to be sure the others were treated...He is now cured...but the rest have Ich.....grrrr

Thanks for replies, I have decided I don't want to treat the tank as there are no obvious signs of fungus in the tank and I don't want to put other fish under chemical stress. I have raised the water temperature slightly and I will do 25% water changes each night to eliminate spores. I will update this with results.
Thanks

Don't raise the water temp. Keep it lower. Mouth fungus isn't actually a fungus but a bacterial infection, so it's best to use an antibiotic such as Myxazin. Follow the instructions carefully.
