Hi everyone, I am not a regular poster but I have a real problem with my red wag platy who is displaying a fungal infection for the 4th time since October. I have spoken to my LFS (usually pretty good with their advice and help) but symptoms have returned again.

Here are our details below and I'd be eternally grateful if anyone can help:

Tank size: Juwel 63L

pH: Between 7.4 and 7.6 (shows up darkest colour on the Ph test and the lowest of the high range test (API testing kit). Ph has never shown a change.

ammonia: 0 this morning (and consistently so)

nitrite: 0 this morning (and consistently so)

nitrate: 5 this morning but never higher than 40

kH: not known

gH: not known

tank temp: 24 C

Fish Symptoms (include full description including lesion, color, location, fish behavior): White fluffy patches on sides of her body and on her fins. Her colour is fine and she is enthusiastically eating (as usual). She does hide in her favourite plant more than usual though and her fins are clamped unless it's feeding time.

Volume and Frequency of water changes: I change 25% of the water every 7 days using aqua tan water conditioner. I gravel vac every other week.

Chemical Additives or Media in your tank: Tank has real plants and has a gravel substrate (is this what is meant here). There are no chemical additives.

Tank inhabitants: One other platy (mickey mouse) and 6 glow light tetras all of which seem perfectly healthy and happy.

Recent additions to your tank (living or decoration): None.

Exposure to chemicals: Only chemicals used are the aqua tan water conditioner for the weekly water changes and the King British Fin Rot & Fungus Control medication that I have used for each bout of infection. This does clear up the fish's symptoms pretty quickly but they return almost exactly 10 days after finishing the treatment.

I hope I've given enough information here. The only other thing is that the tank was set up in July (fishless cycle for 8-9 weeks before adding the platys with the tetras going in a few weeks later.

Thank you so much for reading.

Forgot to say, I feed the fish every other day with either veggie flakes, tetra flakes or occasioally blood worm for a treat.
