After carefully setting up my 45 gallon tank, letting it cycle, getting all the levels right... I was informed today by my landlord, that I can not have a tank of this size in my third floor apartment! He's making me take it all down! This is a terrible, terrible day!

what?! that's not even a large tank!!! it weighs no more than a heavy sofa or bed, that's for certain!!! that's bull... if i were you, i would have a few strong words with this landidiot.

Hi. I have been a tropical fish hobbyist since 1985. Your bettas are awesome. I have one named Sebastian in a 1 - gallon tank. (Mom was going to kill me if any bigger aquaria came into the house - hence your blog title.) He is blue and red on the fins and a unique touch of red on his forehead. He seems to be very happy in the tank and I feed him a mix of color flakes and standard betta food. We took pictures of him last week, however we are a little antiquaeted and don't have a digital camera. Is there a way I can send in the pictures and have them on the blog?

As for some suggestions on the 10 gallon tank: You could go with a school of smaller tetras, perhaps serpae, blackamoor or lemon with a bottom feeder such as a banjo catfish ( but give a hiding space.) OR you could go with a school of tiger (and the green variety) or rosy barbs ditto the catfish. Just keep about 4 or 5 barbs as it is a 10 gallon tank. PETCO had the manager's special last month as serpae tetras or long finned rosy barbs but I settled for the one gallon betta tank and love him.

Let me know how you make out.

Cheers,

Dave Murphy

I'm can't bring myself to take it down!!

The landlord suggested that I keep a 15 gallon tank, but what could I really do with a 15 gallon? The sad part is the 3 poor pearl danios that are now homeless little fellas! Luckily, I didn't get too far into my stocking (obviously, just my first starter fish), but it still is a shame.

If anyone has some good suggestions for a 15 gallon, please share.

45 divided by 3 is 15, get three 15 gallon tanks.

Did you clear it with him first?

Yeah, he said he would "let it slide" if I had the smaller tank. But now, I'm pretty discouraged because I had a whole plan in my head for the 45usg tank, downsizing to a 5 - 15 severely limits my options.

Ladies and Gentlemen, it's better to buy than to rent!

:( that is not good ...
i bett you are well upset , cant u creep around youre landlord till he says yes ,, worth a try

just explain that it is not that heavy and wont break the floor,

Not really...

Sofas and beds are easy to pick up.

Try picking up a tank full of water!!!
