I am just about to start making some tanks, and have already bought some bits and bobs to kit them out, including lots of bags of play sand for the substrate.

I do want these tanks to be planted though, and so am looking at buying some Fuller's Earth litter to lay underneath the sand.

My question is, how much of the litter do you think I will need for 3 tanks with a 6ft x 2ft footprint, 3 tanks with a 3ft x 2ft footprint and 3 tanks with a 2ft x 2ft footprint?

I can buy this at 99p per 20kg so I just need to know how much I need, I don't want to be left with god knows how much extra after laying the substrate in my tanks.

Buy 40 kilos to begin with, you can always buy more later, you only need about 1cm covered with 5cm of sand.

Make sure it's 100% pure clay cat litter though!
