Hey all! I just got a 29 gallon tank! I have a pair of now fully grown convicts and there starting to breed. this will be there second attempt (the first time they didnt make it long because the african cichlids jumped the divider in my 55 gallon ) I had it setup with them having 1/4th of the tank so they had about 15/20 gallons... well i'm going to move them to the new 29 gallon. what i want to know is will the 29 gallon make a good permanent home for the breeding pair? thanks for any and all responses!

Thats good that you xfered them to the 29G because nw cichlids and africans should not be in the same tank as they need different water conditions and africans are much more aggressive.

The pair will work fine in the 29 for life. Don't add any other fish as the new fish will just get beat up or killed because of how aggressive cons are when they are breeding.

Dont worry if the parents eat a few of the eggs/fry either as this is good because they will eat any unfertilized eggs or unhealthy fry so that the rest of the young have a much better chance :good:

Thanks for the reply! yeah i soon figured that out. Glad to hear the 29 gallon will be to there liking! now I plan to stock with live plants! any suggestions?

Amazon swords and other large leaf plant varieties seem to work well with nw cichlids
