Thanks, that explains a lot... as some of you may have read in my other posts Ive been having problems with the levels of nitrite/nitrate... I have just done another reading and from what i can tell, the level of nitrate/nitrite
couldnt get any higher!! I cant see what I am doing wrong though.... I have only had the tank for 3 weeks and have changed 20% of the water each week, I have changed the white filters each week too (was told not to change the other filters for 4 months...is this right?) ....Have also just checked for ammonia and I cant see any trace of that i'm pleased to say...
The algae is out of control (only cleaned it off the glass at the weekend and it is covering a lot of it again) Have discussed this in another thread and think it may be to do with the amount of light. (buying a timer at the weekend)
HOW DO I GET THE LEVELS OF NITRITE/NIRATE DOWN???
When I have been doing water changes i have been leaving the water overnight and adding a drop of water conditioner but i cant seem to shift the high levels and now that my fish have 'pop-eye' Its getting me quite worried!!
Please help my little fishy wishies....
UPDATE - Have just had a read of my literature that came with the tank and they say that this is common and that a 50% water change may be neccesary.... I have just filled up anything i can find and added water conditioner ready to do this tomorrow night. (btw Is it possible to put too much water conditioner in? They say 5ml per 10 gallons which when youre filling up a small bucket seems a very very small amount!)
Will see how it goes after tomorrow night but any help greatly appreciated....
