I was laying there just watching my fish, when all of the sudden one of my mollies went flying across the tank chasing what looked like a flea. LOL. I went poking around and sure enough, i have a little fish....

thing is, i'm confused, I cant imagine who it came from. I have a few female mollies in there, but they didnt look overly pregnant ... the real chubby looking one i put into a maternity tank, she still hasnt had babies...

Yay, i'm excited, but wasnt ready for this lol, i need to get a trap or somewhere safe to put it, its in the net right now at the top of the tank

is there a way I can tell who mom is so I can seperate her? I dont see any that are real fat or have a gravid spot

Well somebody has to be the mama :p
Congrats on the wittle baby ^_^ Just keep your eyes peeled for more until you figure out who mom is.

By the way, I'm going to move this to the livebearer forum, they'll be able to help you better over there :)

and what can I do with the little one until I can get a breeding trap?

Its in a little net in the top of the tank, should i leave the light on?

thank you LOL, i totally wasnt expecting this! I'm not prepared at all , i figured my first mom would be the one I had put alone in the other tank LOL. i didnt even realize anyone in here was about to pop

please don't use a breeding trap, they stunt gorwth and caurse stress and then death. To be honest I hate to see them sold. nasty boxes of death.<shudder>

If you have no where to put them, leave them where they are.

i feel the same way... you can leave them in the trap fora few days but thats it.... i would invest in a flew flaoting plants. fake hornwort does good and some breeding grass type of stuff for the bottom of the tank and then let the babies out. before you let them out feed your adlut fish very well even maybe a bit over feed for hte one time so they are totally full. then when you release the babies turn the lights off and let them go towards the bottom of the tank near the grass you put in there and they should be fine.

Yeah, i wasnt planning on leaving them in a trap long.... Just long enough to catch them all up, and to prepare the other tank...The net was not an ideal situation lol, but like I said, I wasnt prepared for any babies.... I figured I'd be keen enough to know when one of the fish was ready to have babies and deal with it then.. suprise suprise for me hehe...

I went ahead and spent the afternoon watching... I only managed to catch 3 of them, saw a couple of others, but my dwarf gourami was quicker than me :(

But I moved the 3 into my 10gallon, the water levels are good, and I have the temp at 80. I've been crushing flakes for now, and i'm going to get them some baby brine shrimp or something as well ... I went a researching !! lol.

I just hope I am able to raise them successfully... so exciting to have your first babies. :)

Still dont know who mom is, but I believe its my little yellow and red mickey mouse platy....

thanks for the help you guys :)

you can use freeze dried shrimp pellets as well i use to break them with my fingernails into small pieces for the babies they loved it. also i got first bites food and i would go between all three each day morning noon and night time

hey rememer not to put the babies back into the tank too earily. you know there big enout when the fry size lis bigger than the largest fishes mouth. and keep watching because if u have gravel the fry like to hide in it so you will possible have more swimming in there. and the nets that latch to the inside do not stunt growth or build up waste especialy if you only have 3 fry. i hope i was of help

I found a 4th little guy hiding in the gravel the next day, he has also been moved into the tank... so now I have 4 little babies, have been feeding them constantly and watching the water levels and doing changes often.. so far so good :)

thanks for all the help

Awww, congrats! Don't feed them too much, as they can get bloated or constipated...but about 6 times a day is good. So is alternating foods. :)

Best of luck with the babies, and have fun raising them!
