Ooo just bought a 20 gal freshwater tank off someone at work for £20. I can use that for freshwater and have my 10gal under my marine - increasing capacity by 50%. The 20 gallon wont fit in the cabinet unfortunately...

Things are getting better by the day. Guess I'm going to be spending all weekend rearranging stuff.

Do you recond a week is long enough to let the undergravel filter mature on my 5gal fry tank (its got a canister filter from my old tank in for instant cycling). Want to move that to my 20 gal to cycle that. Will the fry's undergravel be ok after just 1 week? There are only 2 in there so theres not going to be a huge strain...

You established canister filter may be helping to seed the UGF on the fry tank.... but bear in mind the canister filter has also been removing nitrite and ammonia from the water which is what your UGF needed in the first place to grow the beneficial bacteria.

Sorry, I'd think not, however I have a 17L tank with 5 fry in which is doing fine. Its just a plain tank, I make sure to change the water every other day. (used to be 8 but the two tiddler runts got eaten by their siblings!)

You can get away with removing the canister filter by just doing regular 50% water changes.

I may do that. I w/c regularly anyway. Its going to be quite a job rearranging 2 tanks and seeting up the new "to be" sump for my marine - could take all bank holiday...
