Hi again, I have read on here if tank is small enough I may not need a heater, my tank is 18inch by 12 by 12, making it 35 litres or 9 gallons.

Would I need a heater for this or would room temp keep it fine for fry

please post back asap

If you can keep the room that the tank is in at a steady 24-26C, then you will be ok, but remember that temp. fluctuations can upset sensitive fish and increase vulnerability to illness. A small amount of water will fluctuate further and more easily than a large one when there are ambient temp changes. I think a heater is best to be on the safe side. Can you set a room heater thermostat to keep the room temp stable? Is there a lot of traffic in/out of the heated room (ie door opening constantly=more temp changes). If you are really desperate, you could try putting the tank against a very solid (ie double brick or similar) internal wall that is as close to the centre of the house as possible, shut all doors and windows into that room and hope it keeps your temp more stable.
ps please bear in mind that i live in a totally different climate to you, so some info may be different!!

Hi thanks again for the post.

I think I can keep it warm enough until Ican get a heater or I might just get a breeding net to put the fry in instead of the small plastic trap seeing as they will be ready for big tank in a month or so, they look fairly large already compare to what I was expecting, I will set up the small tank on the shelf under the large tank hopefully that will keep the temp stable and if it does for a few days I will chance putting them in it, it sounds harsh but if the worst happens im sure there will be plenty more fry along from my other 2 girls pretty soon
