i have a old 10 gallon tank with a small population of guppies there are almost 10 4 day old fry. at what age can you start to split the sexes of the new fry.
Ideally, split them apart as soon as you can tell the sexes.
Females tend to have little tiny gravid spots already, while males will not. If you're looking for gonopodiums, they tend to come out around 3 months, but it depends on the fish...some are early, some are late. If you look closely at the anal fins, you may be able to see a slight difference. I've noticed this with my fry. The males' fins will be slightly more pointed. This may just be something minute I've noticed after staring at fry for 10 years, I don't know.
yeah!! so u think these are all females? because i want to take them out so they can be virgins. also should i still keep looking for a few more days to see if more show up?
Yeah, I'd take them out. It can't hurt, really. And yes, continue looking until you have all of them definitevely sexed. There can be changes everyday!
