Hello all, just a recap my platy droped 35 fry a few weeks ago and i recently (this week), transfered the ones that survived into a plastic breeder into a new 10 gal tank with an established filter. anyhow, after testing my water everything is showing fine but my fry are dying on me for some strange reason. I been feeding them powdered crushed flakes twice a day (morning & night), and regulary weekly water changes. They are the only ones in the tank in the breeder, now i'am down to 6 fry out of the 35 and i'm upset.
Anyone know why they keep dying???? is this normal out of 35 for this many to survive????
tia!

if its not the water or temp then it could be that they died naturally. e.g most fry die from swim bladder disease. when i had molly fry 6 died out of 12 for no reason, no visable marks or syntoms of diseases and perfect water and temp.

Sometimes they just die off... it sucks. I had a mass dieoff a few weeks ago, I lost close on 50 fry. I have about 160 left, but I'm not going to spazz about it because I have two of my best females due.

I had 35 platy fry 3 months ago, I have managed to raise only 4 to near adult hood - out of approx 70 Guppys from 2 females I have raised perhaps only 20 - my Black Molly dropped about 20 and they were all dead within a month - she has just miscarried everything last week and another sailfin molly who was immensly "pregnant" suddenly was thin again - no fry in sight.....!!!!!

Dont lose heart - keep plugging away.

Your not feeding them nowhere near enough 5-6 times a day they need to be healthy

i Raise on average 200 fry every month and i feed them 3 crushed pinchs of food 5-7 times a day aswell as daphina, tubifex and live food such as bbs and blood worms once they are large enough to take it, ive not lost any fry in this time and they all grow rapidly and have beautiful colours.

should i be feeding them 3 times a day instead of 2 then??

I just found a random fry hiding. lol. when i caught it to put in the breeding trap it somehow managed to escape. So i named it houdini. When i eventually caught it again it hasnt escaped. It looks a few days old because it is quite large compared to pics ive seen on new born fry. Is feeding it very finely crushed flake 4-5 times a day ok?
